Benin: The Date for Changing to a 10-Digit Dialing Plan Finally Revealed

Recently announced at a cabinet meeting, the date for the transition from an eight (08) to a ten (10) digit dialing plan has finally been disclosed.

The shift from an eight (08) to a ten (10) digit dialing plan in Benin has been officially declared during the cabinet meeting on Wednesday, March 6th, 2024. This migration will take effect starting on November 30th, 2024.

The update was revealed by the Executive Secretary of the Electronic Communications and Postal Regulatory Authority (Arcep) Benin, Hervé Guèdègbé, during his appearance on the show Allo Bip on Bip Radio. According to him, the prefix 01 will be added to the current numbers regardless of the GSM network. “Whether you’re subscribers of MTN, MOOV, or CELTIS, you will have the same prefix,” stated Hervé Guèdègbè.

He continued by explaining that emergency or short numbers, such as 118 and 136, will not change. “Short numbers will not be affected by this new dialing plan,” clarified the Executive Secretary of the Electronic Communications and Postal Regulatory Authority (Arcep).
