Benin’s Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) rose moderately by 0.3% in April, reaching 103.0, according to data released Friday by the National Institute of Statistics and Demography (INSTAD).
The increase was primarily driven by a 1.5% rise in food and non-alcoholic beverage prices, which was partially offset by a 1.5% drop in transportation costs, notably due to a 3.6% decrease in gasoline prices.
Meanwhile, core inflation—which excludes seasonal and energy-related products—edged down slightly, from 101.6 in March to 101.5 in April.
