Benin: Recruitment of 796 Contractual Agents for Health Facilities Announced by the Government

The government announced the recruitment of seven hundred and ninety-six (796) contractual public agents of decentralized territorial communities for public health facilities for the years 2024 and 2025 at the last council of ministers.

As part of the implementation of the Government’s Action Program for 2021-2026, it is planned to recruit 3,000 public contractual agents of the State for the Ministry of Health. Out of this total, a special recruitment of 1,600 had already been organized.

At the end of the process, 1,331 agents, including 234 doctors and 588 nurses and midwives, have taken up service, representing 83% of the expected workforce.

This number has partly filled the gap in healthcare personnel made available to health facilities. However, there is still an inequity in the distribution and retention of these agents on site, resulting in poor coverage of some municipalities in terms of healthcare staff.

To remedy this, it is planned to recruit, starting from 2024, contractual public agents of decentralized territorial communities for public health facilities. The status of these agents indeed gives them a connection to the municipalities for which they are recruited and provides a better guarantee of covering the local needs and keeping the personnel in place.

With the approval of the recruitment of 796 agents for the year 2024, the Council instructed the concerned ministers to ensure its proper organization.
