Benin: Johannes Dagnon, Special Advisor to Patrice Talon, Dismissed

Patrice Talon, the president of Benin, has recently decided to terminate the assignment of his special advisor, Johannes Dagnon, as reported by local media on Tuesday, April 9, 2024.

Serving as a special advisor since 2016, Johannes Dagnon was relieved of his duties by the president of the Republic. The precise reasons for this presidential decision have not yet been disclosed to the public.

Johannes Dagnon held several important roles within the presidency, including that of coordinator of the Bureau of Analysis and Investigation. He is recognized as one of the major architects of the Government’s Action Program (GAP).

It should be noted that the former special advisor’s name is regularly mentioned among the potential successors to President Talon, whose second and final term will end in 2026. Youth groups have already started mobilizing to encourage and support his possible candidacy for the presidency.

Moreover, the reasons for his dismissal have not yet been revealed.
