Abidjan HBC qualified on Sunday, October 11, 2026, for the semi-finals of the African Women’s Champions Club Championship by defeating Flowers of Benin 19 to 14 in Luanda, Angola. The Ivorian club thus joins the final four of the 47th edition of the competition.

The Abidjan team built its lead from the first half. They were ahead 10 to 4 at halftime before holding off their opponent’s comeback and maintaining a five-goal margin at the end of the match.

This qualification extends a journey that began with difficulty against two title contenders. Abidjan HBC was defeated 34 to 14 by Primeiro of Angola on the first day, then 27 to 21 by Al Ahly of Egypt.

The Ivorian representative then resumed his campaign by defeating Mazembe from the Democratic Republic of Congo 22 to 17. His victory over Flowers confirms this recovery at the time of the knockout matches.

The competition brings together the leading African clubs in Luanda from October 4 to 14. Ten women’s teams were divided into two groups during the draw held in September at the headquarters of the African Handball Confederation in Abidjan.

Abidjan HBC remains the only Ivorian women’s club participating in this edition. Côte d’Ivoire is also represented in the men’s competition by Renaissance, placed in a group that notably includes Al Ahly of Egypt and Petro Atlético of Angola.
