Benin: a network of robbers and fences dismantled in Godomey-Togoudo

The security forces of the Godomey police station have dealt a heavy blow to crime in the Abomey-Calavi commune by getting their hands on a network of robbers and fences.

The operation, carried out last weekend in Godomey-Togoudo, led to the arrest of four criminals and three accomplices specializing in the resale of stolen goods.

The police intervention was triggered after a motorcyclist was attacked by machete-wielding individuals. Refusing to give up his motorcycle, the victim put up stiff resistance, throwing his bike to the ground before striking one of his assailants with a stone.

Surprised by this reaction, the robbers tried to flee, but the motorcyclist’s screams alerted local residents. Two of the assailants were subdued and handed over to the police.

An investigation traced back to the fences

As the two other accomplices managed to escape, investigations by the Godomey police station led to their identification and arrest. During questioning, the suspects confessed to their acts and denounced their accomplices involved in the resale of the stolen objects. As a result, three fences, including a Nigerian national, were apprehended.

The arrested robbers were presented to the public prosecutor and remanded in custody, while the fences will be brought to trial shortly.

This latest raid bears witness to the vigilance and effectiveness of the law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime, thus reinforcing the climate of security in the region.
