The Senegalese sports world in general, and Al Nassr forward Sadio Mané in particular, is mourning following the death of Malang Mané, an emblematic figure known both as an athlete and as a coach. The renowned former athlete and member of Amadou Gakou’s generation, Malang Mané passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at the age of 81. His passing was announced by journalist Mamadou Koumé in the ANPS forum.

Who was Malang Mané?

Malang Mané, a former international athlete in the 1960s, was a distinguished sprinter who proudly represented Senegal at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. His participation in this historic event raised the flag of Senegal on the global sports stage, leaving an indelible mark in the country’s Olympic history.

After his athletic career, Malang Mané continued his passion for sports by becoming a football coach. He exercised his talents at US Gorée, leaving behind a legacy of expertise and dedication. However, it was at Génération Foot that he left an especially significant impact.

As a coach at Génération Foot, Malang Mané had the opportunity to train young talents, among whom was Sadio Mané, the world-renowned Senegalese striker.
