2026 general elections: Céna and civil society strengthen their collaboration

On Tuesday, March 18, 2025, the Autonomous National Electoral Commission(Céna) and the Electoral Platform of Civil Society Organizations(PEOSC) held a working session on preparations for the 2026 general elections.

Led by its coordinator, Léontine Idohou, the PEOSC delegation presented several initiatives designed to strengthen citizen participation and prevent electoral violence. Among the flagship actions mentioned

  • A methodological workshop on citizen monitoring of the electoral roll
  • Promotion of a non-violence charter for political parties

The aim of these initiatives is to ensure greater transparency in the electoral process and encourage political players to adopt a responsible and peaceful stance.

A positive response from the Céna

Céna President Sacca Lafia, surrounded by several electoral advisors, welcomed the platform’s commitment and reaffirmed the institution’s readiness to work with civil society to ensure an inclusive and credible election.

In particular, the institution insisted on the need to intensify citizen awareness of the new provisions of the electoral code, and to orient voters on the forthcoming regulatory changes.

At the end of the session, Sacca Lafia expressed his satisfaction with the quality of the exchanges, stressing that this meeting represented a significant step forward in the construction of a serene and transparent electoral process for 2026.
